Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock which means it is formed when sedimentary rock ( limestone , sandstone ) is subject to pressure and heat under the earth’s surface.

Marble is therefore softer than Granite and is less suitable for work surfaces, as it is liable to scratch and stain easier than Granite.

Marble also tends to have lots of veins and fissures in it, due to its formation, but it is hard enough to take a polish to its surface ( albeit a polish which requires a lot of care and attention in order to keep it that way.
